Could someone from this group give the rest of us an idea of what they are doing? I am looking for specifics - what issues have been discussed with city representatives and the current status. We don't need different groups of homeowners pursuing the same items.
I am particularly interested in anything you are doing or information you have with respect to the new schools, their impact on the intersection of Keller-Hicks/Alta Vista, and the safety issue of no sidewalks on either street. My understanding is that Keller-Hicks widening is currently not even being considered until about 2009 and the fact that the southern half is Tarrant County seems to be part of the problem.
Thanks.

Navy I am not part of the transportation group but was trying to get our streets fixed inside of vows. I have asked questions until I am tired. I would be glad to help anyway I can.

If anyone would like to VOWS Transportation Homeowners Committee you are more than welcome, please email me txblhmom@Msn.com. Originally postings, soliciting feedback and volunteers is on woodlandsprings.com under VOWS Transportation Committee. We communicate via email and telephone, we do not exclude anyone and encourage everyone whom wants to participate. Our group is open to any means of communication. The goal is to seek as much feedback as possible from homeowners, whom choose to want to participate. The issues brought up on the websites, are gathered and presented to TPW. We are constantly gathering concerns based on feedback, from homeowners, surrounding: street lights, sidewalks, stop signs etc and are working on getting traffic studies done. Our communication with the city consist of meetings and emails, of which will start being uploaded to groups.yahoo.com/group/VOWS_HomeownersVoices as it comes in and what is being done. We are awaiting confirmation of meetings with the Fire Department and TPW. Many of these same concerns were previously addressed with Wilma Smith and TPW. During which time we were asked to map said concerns. Again, we gather information posted on either websites, and/or emails and map those concerns.

Chauncy, I would also like to help out on the transportation committee. Just tell me what is needed. I lived in Park Glen for 10 years and we had the exact same problems with the roads. They are just now widening North Tarrant 10 years later. The roads surrounding Central High School are pitiful and underdeveloped also and this is its 3rd year of operation. The City of Fort Worth should make the builders of all these big subdivisions develop the roads BEFORE they begin building. I would bet there will be no road improvements for Keller Hicks and Alta Vista for years. We need to stand up and voice our concerns.

guest, Very well said. What do you think is the best way to get residents united on this?
I know that Sal has been informed of this issue and is trying to work with KISD on figuring things out. I spoke to both him and the Super of KISD and really think that the bottleneck is occuring at the school district. I know that sounds crazy because you would think that the schools would be sooooooo interested in the safety of the kids. Maybe Mr. V just rubbed me the wrong way...While I was speaking to him about this he turned his back to me and started speaking to someone else. This was not only very rude but showed me his lack of interest in even listening to my concerns. I would bet that he would pay attention if 40 concerned parents showed up at his office one day!! Any ideas?

We communicate via email and telephone, we do not exclude anyone and encourage everyone whom wants to participate. Our group is open to any means of communication. The goal is to seek as much feedback as possible from homeowners, whom choose to want to participate. I think posting information on this board would be a good communication tool. I get too much email as it is and really don't want to get on another distribution list. My question really hasn't been answered. I understand you have contacted Wilma Smith/TPW (Transportation & Public Works for anyone who wonders what that acronym is) regarding street lights, sidewalks, stop signs and other issues within the development. Am I correct that you have not had a definite response from TPW on those issues and that is what you are waiting to meet with them about? You mentioned traffic studies - which particular streets/roads? Again, my biggest concern is the intersection of Keller-Hicks/Alta Vista; is your group currently doing anything with this issue? This is not a criticism. I am trying to find out who is doing what so that I know where to focus my efforts. The last thing we need is multiple groups of homeowners separately contacting the city about the same issue. Laralee's point about KISD is valid - they need to be part of the solution for this issue (since the schools will have a significant impact on the traffic in that area), as does the county since the south side of the road is currently in the county. Our developer has put over $3 million towards Keller-Hicks road improvements into escrow (this was confirmed with the city). The developer of the proposed Bridges at Woodland Springs (on the NE corner of the intersection) should put up money as well as the developer of the Bear Creek subdivision that wraps behind the KISD bus barn. Definitely not an easy problem to solve, but the last thing I want to read or hear about is a child getting injured or killed trying to get to school next year.

I am all for fixing our roadways. But the City of Fort Worth can not even fix the streets in VOWS. 2 year old streets falling apart is not right. The developer built them to city code and now they are falling apart. Since the streets are only 2-3 years old the city has not included them in the budget for repairs because they are still pretty new.

You do not have to be on a distribution list to see the information?! You can view information on that site as one does this site. I am confused as to why you would say that??? Yes, the streets are/have been discussed many many times by different departments. Yes, the sidewalk issued has/is being brought up regarding the safety of our children. We have been pushing to get those PRIOR to the schools opening. If you don't mind, can you also post what others are addressing, with everyone on here so as you addressed we can know where our focus of attention is not being covered? We are not focusing on one item; but trying to cover all immediate concerns brought to our attention by the homeowners. Again, if you would like to join our efforts you are more than welcome On the other hand, if you would like to pick a topic of most importance to you, we would like to know your progress. Yes, we have previously met with TPW. Yes, we are waiting confirmation of our next meeting. Yes, we are still gathering and compiling information and feedback from homeowners to be able to present an overview of our request. If you have specifics in mind you are more than welcome to email me or post them here and we will gladly include them in our presentation.

You don't have to be.
Yes, we have had a definite response from Wilma, we are asking for traffic studies based upon the feedback we gather from homeowners.
The particular streest are based upon feedback we get from homeowners.
Yes, based on the feedback: apartments, schools, traffic etc..we are including this to TPW.
Yes, our intentions are to keep KISD in the loop of our concerns and suggested solutions.

Could I get a simple Yes or No answer to this question: Have you requested a traffic study for Keller-Hicks Road? That is what I am working on. If you have already done it, I don't need to. You do not have to be on a distribution list to see the information?! You can view information on that site as one does this site. I am confused as to why you would say that??? You stated your group communicates through email and telephone, and were open to other means of communication. I suggested posting the information here as another means; my reason is that I already get a lot of email. I have checked out the yahoo groups site and the only thing posted is the group's mission statement; the woodlandsprings.com thread has not had any activity since October 9th. Therefore I can only conclude that your communication is primarily by email or telephone as stated initially, which are methods I prefer to avoid right now when a post to a website will accomplish the same thing. Besides, I spend way too much time on this site (according to my spouse ;D) so I might as well get it here.
